Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How Pluribus Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed program reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—the writers' room recently discussed the fan response and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Viewer Reception

One could easily to get swayed by the rampant praise and online debates surrounding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's on purpose. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren't taking cues by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” he states. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a better idea. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, one could always use the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
