Seamer Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Concerns.
'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.
Gus Atkinson added to the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the playing area during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.
Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left leg immediately following a delivery that he bowled at the MCG.
Team management stated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time off the field to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".
The final Test of the tour at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.
The visitors have already lost strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.
A replacement bowler was added to the party as injury reinforcement.
The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.
He was dropped from the previous Test, then recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.
Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, then making 28 with the bat among just a trio of teammates who passed ten runs.
Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he returned for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.
Unfortunately, at the end of that over, he delivered a change of pace to Travis Head and immediately felt at his leg.
The English bowler was recalled for the Melbourne match after being left out the previous Test.
