Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
