Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the government.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
