Information Available Regarding the Victims of the Bondi Shooting
A minimum of 16 individuals perished and more than 40 sustained injuries when attackers fired on a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities are describing as a terrorist attack.
According to the most recent information, authorities have confirmed the number of fatalities stands at 16, encompassing one of the suspected attackers. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were transported to the hospital.
The deceased are still awaiting officially identified, but authorities state their ages span between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Described as a father-of-five, he served as the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and friends described him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.
“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member said.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.
She told the moments before the shooting, explaining they had been standing together when the gunfire erupted. “He moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,” she said.
The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
In a statement, a senior official said that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must combat,” the message continued.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was a fatality during the attack, as per multiple sources citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospitals, a significant number remain receiving treatment, with five in serious condition. Those hurt comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.
A wounded man is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to confront one of the attackers. Described as a local hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.
In a message, he recounted the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the shooting. He said he heard “a large number” of shots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
