Fury Explodes as Former President Trump's Social Media Remarks on Rob Reiner Ignites Sharp Rebuke

Figures from both sides of the political aisle and the entertainment world are coming together to denounce Donald Trump for his statements following the tragic deaths of renowned director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Post

Following the discovery of the couple dead at their Los Angeles residence, Trump took to his platform to describe the late director as "tortured and suffering". In a post, he claimed Reiner's death was "due to the hostility he caused others through his massive, relentless, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments then pivoted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump described as the "Golden Age of America".

Law Enforcement Developments and Detention

Authorities have since announced the detention of the Reiners' adult son, Nick, on charges related to murder in relation to the incident. It is reported his bail was established at a significant sum.

A Wave of Condemnation from Celebrities and Politicians

The reaction to Trump's post was immediate and scathing.

“What a vile and despicable comment,” remarked actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a friend, similarly condemned the statements. Goldberg referenced previous rhetoric from Trump regarding political violence, demanding, "Do you have no shame? Is it possible to get any lower?"

The state of California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, simply stated, "This is a disturbed man."

Mirroring this view, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "He is a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "He's just lost it. Now implying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own demise because they opposed him. Deeply disturbing."

Rebuke from Within Party

A number of Republican lawmakers also voiced disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about political feuds or rivals". She also alluded to challenges with addiction and psychological well-being some families face.

Another Republican representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's remarks "unacceptable and disgraceful" given the circumstances. He openly challenged members in his party to justify the comments.

Reiner's History and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal critic of Donald Trump. During a previous interview, he argued Trump was "mentally unfit" for the office. He had also warned about the risks of autocracy should Trump return to power.

"There is autocracy making its move around the world," Reiner noted. "If we crumble, there’s a risk that democracy crumble around the world."

Despite his pointed opposition, Reiner had previously shown "complete revulsion" and denounced violence for political ends without reservation following the shooting of a different political figure.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of historical irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the photographer who captured the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once recounted the story of the session, noting Trump's demand for "special hairspray" while being photographed on a skyscraper with a view of Central Park.
