Brian Eno Calls On Backing to Send Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The effort seeks to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in the autumn. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of performers featured on Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the industry. All participated in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a significant sum for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of music creators. The song blends a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the campaign have clarified that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These donations will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was described as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of infrastructure reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a couple of million is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is primarily making this cause better known and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The track is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
