Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with results so bad.”
He stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
